I have been wanting to see this movie and have been wondering whether it would actually be better than the book and all I can say is don’t give your hopes up. Bella Swan finds herself living dangerously when her vampire boyfriend Edward Cullen leaves her. She soon reconnects with Jacob, a childhood friend, and learns there are more supernatural beings living in her town, and they may be the only ones who can protect her from a vampire seeking vengeance. I’m a Twilight fan and I thought the books were great, even if the writing is weak, but I never liked New Moon as a book and I thought the movie would be better but actually, it wasn’t. The story is pretty much weak and it strongly reminded me of a storyline from the series True Blood but for teenagers and stretched for two hours. The characters are pretty much the same all the way through and the main three characters (Jacob, Edward and Bella) were annoying in their own unique way.
The biggest flaw in the movie, in my opinion, was the acting. Kristen Stewart has done some great acting but in this, she was appalling. She never showed her emotions, it was always monotone. Whenever she did display emotions, she managed to mess it up and make it look laughable such as the nightmare scenes (where she did her best impression of Donkey Kong) and the scene where she sees Edward being tortured by Jane (where it started out believable but didn’t end the same way). I could say there was also bad acting from Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner who, both, were better in Twilight. The two actresses that stood out through the entire movie was Dakota Fanning, who was amazing as Jane in the Volturi and Ashley Greene who plays Alice and they weren’t in the movie for very long.
Also, this movie was the same runtime as Twilight but this seemed to feel like it was forever. The CGI on the wolves were surprisingly good but again the Quileute boys became annoying as soon as they appeared on screen. Twilight fans will not find a single flaw in the movie (due to their obsession with Edward and Jacob) but there are quite a few. Overall, the trailer looked awesome but unfortunately the movie was not. The movie was average just like everything else. I know I’m probably biased because I thought the book was the weakest in the series but I thought that this movie would be better than the book. I hope The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be much better than this. It’s not good and unfortunately it’s too long for this story. I wouldn’t watch this again in a hurry. I hope almost everything improves in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
